1. Sites:

Grace talks about travelling over land and sea to better appreciate sites along the journey.

Sites are interesting thing you see in a certain place hence ‘site-seeing’ and ‘see the sites’.

You could say, ‘We walked around London, took in the sites.’ Or, ‘Are you going to London for business or to see the sites?’

2. Quick Turnaround:

Ueda says, “There’s also slow journalism which has developed as opposed to developing stories with a quicker turnaround such as breaking news.’

Here turnaround is how long we need to perform a task, especially getting an assignment and returning it. So articles with quick turnaround would be assigned, written and submitted quickly.

You could also say, ‘The turnaround for a sales report is around one week.’

3. Superficial Opinion:

Ueda says, “It avoids instant articles and superficial opinions in favor of a longer-term approach.”

Something superficial is shallow; only concerned with surfaces.

Things like, ‘She’s so superficial, only interested in her appearance.’ Or, ‘This is a very superficial report. It doesn’t examine the roots of our production problems.’

4. In Favor of:

Out of a preference for something because one thing is deemed better than another.

Such as, ‘The Company decided against new office furniture in favor of updating our computers.’

So the company decided that updating our computers was better, more important than getting new furniture.

5. Methodical:

Grace says, “It’s a methodical form of journalism which some see as an antidote to quick-fire, off the cuff bits of reporting”

Something methodical is done in a careful, organized way.

About a writer, you could say, ‘He’s very methodical. He checks his writing line by line for mistakes.’

1. site-seeingと当たり前のように使っていた人は、解説をよく読んで理解を深めて下さい。

2. 例文の使い方以外に、改善、好転という使い方もできます。

3. これを知らなかった人はこの機会に覚えて使いましょう。

4. favor [féivər]の発音を確認しておきましょう。

5. こちらも発音を確認しておきましょう。[məθɑ́dikl]
